5 water activities on Île de Ré

If you are planning to travel to Ile de Ré and plan to take advantage of the good restaurants, beautiful beaches and bike rides, you should add 5 things to do to your list of activities.
Indeed, the Ile de Ré offers fun water activities for young and old, to do with family or friends. Enough to spend sporting days with your feet in the water and make the most of the island!

Here are 5 water sports activities that you might enjoy on Ile de Ré :

1. The stand-up paddle

1. The stand-up paddle

At first glance, stand-up paddle seems to be a simple activity: standing on a board and moving forward with a paddle. However, it requires perfect balance in order not to fall off the board dozens of times, and you have to be able to get back on it.
For a day when you want to get away from your private pool, stand-up paddle lessons are ideal. Once you have found your balance, go on a water trip and discover the nature of the island from your board.
You can practise stand-up paddle with the school La Cible Voile, which proposes to go along the Bûcheron bench at low tide or to discover the Lilleau des Niges nature reserve. You can also opt for the Papaï Paddle school where lessons are given in French, Spanish and English.

2. Surfing

2. Surfing

If you would like to spend a whole day or more in the water, opt for surfing lessons. Choose between private or group lessons depending on your level and learn this complex discipline. There is no age requirement for surfing, which is suitable for everyone. The only warning: you will need to be in good shape as surfing is an activity that involves the whole body!
For beginners, go to the Grenettes beach which is ideal for an introduction to surfing. As for thrill-seekers, you should head west of Ars-en-Ré on the fine sandy beach of La Grangen, completely exposed to the swell and perfect for a surfing session at high tide only.
Give up the time of a day in your villa to get closer to the sea and get some exercise on the Ile de Ré.

3. Windsurfing

3. Windsurfing

Embark on the playground that is the sea and practice windsurfing!
For beginners to more experienced windsurfers, lessons are given at the Cabane Verte according to your level, with the aim of teaching you how to practice or perfect your skills. You can also book lessons or a course at the Portes en Ré sailing club.
Practice windsurfing at La Courade sur mer, ideal for beginners and experienced sailors as it is the windiest beach at thermal level and you can practise all kinds of nautical activities such as towed buoys or canoeing and kayaking.
The winds of the Ile de Ré are ideal for windsurfing, even if you are a beginner, let yourself be tempted by this entertaining sport and tame the winds of the island!

4. Fishing

4. Fishing

It is often said that one is never better served than by oneself, so when passing through the Ile de Ré, why not try your hand at fishing? Imagine tasting a fish caught by your own means! To do so, go to the "Comptoir des pêcheurs" website and go on foot or by boat with professional fishermen.
On Ile de Ré, you will be able to catch small and big fish: on foot, with your landing net, you will find many shellfish such as clams, knives, or oysters. By boat, you will have the opportunity to cross the path of bluefin tuna, sea bass and even sea bream! Prefer sailing in the north of the island where conditions are calmer than in the south.

5. Horse riding on the beach

5. Horse riding on the beach

Finally, an almost nautical activity: a horse ride in the water on the beaches of the Ile de Ré. At sunset, embark on your horse for a quiet ride on horseback. The opportunity to admire the landscape in a different way than on foot or on a board.
Perfect for all ages, this activity allows you to vary the days and amuse the youngest.
