  • 85 km2 is the surface area of the island- it takes 40 minutes to drive from one end to the other on Ile de Ré.
  • Ile de Ré is made up of 10 villages which are connected by 100 km of cycling path to admire the beautiful landscape and breathe the fresh air of the renowned salt marshes.
  • The island welcomes around 3 million visitors annually, the french charm really does exist! 
  • There are 20 kilometres of sand dunes and 50 kilometres of beautiful beaches.
  • Oyster farming began around 150 years ago and the Ile de Ré produces 8000 tonnes of oysters annually nowadays.
  • There are 257 steps to climb the famous lighthouse ‘Phare des baleines’ which was built in 1854.
  • The highest number of inhabitants was recorded in 1831 and was 17976 people. It was 17 455 in 2016.
